Why the numbers are different here

Three elevations, not one

Weather models see mountains as smoothed-out hills. We work out the rain/snow line every hour and calculate snowfall separately for the base, mid-mountain and summit of each resort.

Four models, one consensus

ECMWF, NOAA GFS/HRRR, DWD ICON and Environment Canada GEM are combined with the wettest and driest set aside, so no single outlier sets the number. Where they disagree, we show you the range instead of hiding it.

Real snow depth

Cold, dry powder stacks up deeper than wet snow. Snow depth is calculated from the temperature at each elevation, not a fixed ratio.
